I stumbled upon some music memorabilia I forgot I even had. I will be featuring some of them over the following weeks. Today, I am gonna post some of the rolling papers I have collected over the years. First off are some Tragically Hip papers. The first package are from a Hip show I saw in Another package of Hip papers from a show in Some Black Crowes papers from a show in A very cool cover for these papers.

Then of course some Slayer rolling papers that seemed to sell real good at the concert I bought them at. Yup, lots of weed smoked at that show. Then a few packages of papers bought at the local head shop. Some Bob Marley papers, which only makes sense.

Just surprised that the rolling papers are a normal size. And my newest package of papers in which I just got for Xmas. Pink Floyd rolling papers, seems pretty appropriate to me. Posted by acidica at AM 1 comment:. It is a 5 piece Christmas ornament set.

Sounds great. The box does scratch quite easily and Disc 4: Soft Polished Separates is not included in the mp3 download which is a disappointment for me while I'm at work : Otherwise fantastic!! CykoMF April 18, Report. Awesome set! Very nice pressings, sound quality is great, cool packaging and fun bonus stuff. My only complaint is the black ink on the foil box scratches off too easily.

Have: Want: Avg Rating: 4. Surfin' Rockabilly! Popcorn by narcisco. RSD complete by stevefish. Disc 1: Savvy Show Stoppers. I used to love going to shows. I loved punk music, hardcore music and even considered myself straightedge for a while. I found the punk scene actually more unforgiving of women than say hardcore or straightedgers. I do believe this is a very subjective topic though and leans its self to a lot of person experience as opposed to really being able to prove anything.

Ages 13 — 18 going to shows was my life. I went to every show at the Fireside, Metro, Rubes, pretty much any show in Chicago every weekend until I went to college. Fuck, look at the fact that suicidegirls. It looks like someone took a magic marker to a playboy? Street Dogs sing about a lot of working class, union issues.

I want to work in employment law. Combine that with the creeps that hit on me as a teenager, the punk guy that grabbed my ass a couple weeks ago at a bar, or go to punknews. I just get much more jaded about it as I get older. I thought about mentioning the sexiness aspect, but there is way too much there to touch on it without delving in deep. That probably ties in with why female-style band shirts are always so skimpy. The truth? In the early 19th century, Bellamy and Kingston was home to an inn built by Jonathan Gates.

On the night of December 5, , it served as a rallying point for the militia aiming to defend Toronto against the erupting threat of William Lyon Mackenzie and his rebels. The gully was named for Gates and his inn. We start at the northern end of the trail, named for Canadian artist Doris McCarthy, which winds through nearly 24 hectares of ravine, dropping about 90 metres in elevation from the plateau atop the Scarborough Bluffs, one of the geological marvels of North America, down to Lake Ontario.

The ravine is the earliest known site of human occupation in the GTA. Relics unearthed here have been dated from the early archaic period circa BC. When European settlers arrived, they continued to use Gates Gully as an access route to and from the lake; it was a gentle enough incline to wheel cargo up, convenient for soldiers, merchants — and smugglers. The trail shadows Bellamy Ravine Creek, now a combined engineered drainage channel and natural water-.

Native species like white and yellow birch, American beech, white oak and sugar maple flourish on the steep surrounding slopes. Deer, beaver, foxes and coyotes are reported several times a season, and in the spring visitors are thrilled by swarms of Red Admiral butterflies.

Over species have been spotted, including grebes, herons, kinglets, mergansers, hawks, swallows, woodpeckers and terns. A descendent of the Annis family, among the first non-native families in the area, once told a story to the effect that as the Americans looted our city in April , British soldiers buried their money in Gates Gully, a treasure never since recovered.

At the bottom of the trail is Passage, a sculpture by Marlene Hilton Moore resting on the shore of the lake, honouring Doris McCarthy and the Bluffs themselves. McCarthy built a house on the Bluffs in the late 30s. Now the property is owned by the Ontario Heritage Foundation. In , people doing preparatory work for a housing development north of the park discovered ceramic sherds, and a full-scale archaeological assessment was ordered. Eight months of excavation unearthed a year- old Huron-Wendat village thought to have supported a population of to 1,, with 16 or 17 longhouses plus sweat lodges and hearths.

Remarkably, over 19, artifacts, including stone tools and weapons, copper beads and pipes were recovered. Perhaps the most significant discovery was beads made from seashells believed to have originated on the Atlantic, demonstrating the First Nations far-reaching trading network.

The path forks, and the northwest trail proceeds to the shady bliss of Passmore Forest, named after F. The wood- chip trail that rolls out before us leads through a mixed forest peppered with mature sugar maples, American beech saplings and fine examples of white pine and red oak.

All the trails loop back on themselves; we choose the southern one. Beams of sunlight breach the canopy, and the cool breeze causes the leaves to flutter and flash. Garter snakes, crows, blue jays and brown-headed cowbirds are regularly spotted. One avian resident provides us with the greatest thrill one spring day — a great blue heron.

Already under construction, One Park Place South Tower is the newest addition to the internationally recognized and award-winning Regent Park revitalization. Brokers Protected. The ravine follows the course of Castle Frank Brook, a tributary of the Don that once flowed southwest here. Sometime in the s, the city buried the brook as well as Cedarvale Creek and converted them into part of the Spadina Storm Trunk Sewer.

The effects on the valley and wildlife can only be imagined. We walk under the railway bridge, and soon the East. Another major potential threat? The Spadina Expressway. If it had been constructed as designed, Cedarvale Ravine would be roadway today. Homes were expropriated and a large trench dug in Cedarvale Park, but vehement protests succeeded at halting construction in Despite the damage, the area has recovered with considerable grace.

A new landscape emerges peppered by black cherry and wild apple trees. Roughly metres past the rapids, at a major fork in the trail, we head north and discover a small pond that in springtime is a landscape of pure joy with its cattails and invasive yellow iris.

The path edges along the border of Alamosa Park, in the heart of what was once called Flynntown. The stretch between Alamosa and Finch is truly idyllic. Undulating groves of deciduous and coniferous trees give way to sweet little meadows. In the spring, there are Red Admiral butterflies and patches of wild strawberries along the path. Mother nature, however, does not deserve exclusive credit for the grandeur. Since the formation of East Don Parkland Partners in , volunteers have planted 15, trees and shrubs — an amazing accomplishment.

Clair got its name. In the 19th century, the thoroughfare was called the 3rd Concession and passed through the farmland of a family named Grainger. Clare, who vows to free his slave.

It was incorrectly spelled in the program. At the bottom of the steep wooden staircase we come upon the only stretch where Yellow Creek, a historic tributary of the Don that was buried a century ago, sees the open air. Following the trail south, we approach the graffiti-covered St. Clair Viaduct. Half a kilometre along the trail from the viaduct, you can climb out of the ravine to the Rosehill Reservoir.

Originally it was open to the air and freely accessible, but during WWII, out of fear that it might become a strategic target, it was fortified with barbed wire fences. In , after the Cuban Missile Crisis, it was roofed to protect the water from radioactive fallout in the event that the Cold War turned hot. On the east side of the creek, a flat, paved trail crosses under a railway bridge at the ridge that, some 12 or 13 millennia ago, was the shoreline of glacial Lake Iroquois.

Just past the Yellow Creek inlet is David A. Balfour Park. Crossing Mt. This unique program prepares you for a wide choice of careers and gives you the time to decide which is best for you.

It was nearby at the end of the 18th century that Isaiah and Aaron Skinner built the first grist mill on the Don. From this area once flowed some of our great staples: flour, paper and booze. Members of the German merchant marine were confined here in tents and huts while working at the Don Valley brick works and the Greenwood clay pits. Almost 75 per cent of the biomass was invasive or introduced species. Their website lets me snitch on invaders with a tap of my phone.

Soon we skirt a heaviy forested area of sycamore, sugar and silver maple, American elm, trembling aspen and white ash and regionally rare red cedar. I come upon a flight of wooden stairs and cross boardwalk bridges. See Sales Representative for full details. Illustrations are artist concept. Students will learn how to investigate criminal offences, to intervene in crisis situations and to model ethical and professional behaviour. What do our ravines do for us? Selhub and Alan Logan, the authors of This Is Your Brain On Nature, point out, even a quick walk in nature offers up a layer of protection against psychological stress, easing anger, boosting mental clarity, focus and cognitive rejuvenation.

Ditto for areas near moving water, making forested ravines with a flowing rivers or creeks doubly therapeutic. Research at the University of Sheffield found that the more biodiverse an urban green space, the better we feel. Urban forests like those in our ravines help mitigate climate change, too, by sequestering carbon dioxide in their tissue. More than 10 million trees and shrubs blanket over a quarter of Toronto, and nearly 40 per cent of those are in ravines.

The bigger and the healthier the trees, the more they sequester. Encroach on those ravines and you can bet on reversing T. Without a network of deep-rooted trees, well, you unleash a torrent of problems. Heavy rains are guaranteed to leave you up to your knees in flooded roads and soggy basements. Flood control is why the city brought in its ravine bylaw preventing anyone living on a ravine from taking down a tree or altering a slope without permission. The same goes for walkers.

They not only turn thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide see above into pure, clean oxygen for you and me to inhale, but they also filter out a lot of lung-clogging pollutants. Anyone who lives amidst concrete knows a city crowded with slabs of grey and choking tailpipes is always a few degrees hotter than outlying green spaces.

They began to be formed 3 million years ago, and took something like their present shape after the draining of Lake Iroquois at the end of the last ice age 10, years ago. But it was a very recent cataclysm that ensured their preservation: Hurricane Hazel spurred calls for protecting our flood plains against runaway development as a bulwark against extreme weather events. And so the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority was born.

Toronto is a city of lost rivers. But between those major waterways around which the city developed are a number of major creeks: Etobicoke and Mimico in the west; Highland, Duffins and Caruthers in the east. And from those sprout literally thousands of streams and tributaries that have over the decades been bulldozed and covered up by development.

They help form not only the physical, but also the psychogeographic fabric of the city. It was their preferred canoe route north, despite all the portaging, for one simple reason. It was an easier paddle than along Lake Ontario, where you were bound to be confronted by big wind and waves, to the Trent system.

Most of the river is still parkland. Salmon spawn there. Steam locomotives used to hug the banks of the Don. The Don River station was near Queen. A section along the east branch of the Don, the Charles Sauriol Conservation Reserve, is named for him. Ever wonder how life began? How it evolved? Visit www. Our river valleys are not just home to natural beauty.

The Brick Works has a bike tour dedicated to them. Today more than volunteer groups are working to protect our ravines.
