Anniversary Song - Django Reinhardt - Trésors (Ses Plus Belles Interprétations)

01.02.2020 Dogor 10 Comments

He is absolutely amazing and influenced hundreds of musicians. Also in a lot of different genres as well, not just jazz. I think both Jerry Garcia and Tony Iomo were influenced by the fact Django kept on going gafter being injured in his hand and kept developing. Both had in a way disabled hands and Django inspired them.

Django, if there ever was a musicians musician, he is the one. I don't think i ever met someone who didn't like it or wasn't admired by his musicianship. I heard an interview with Willie Nelson where he cited Django as his favorite guitarist and one of his biggest influences. He basically said that Django inspired him to play that style of guitar and that if Django could do it with only two fingers, he should be able to do it with all of his. Man, I love me some Django. Endlessly listenable and enjoyable.

His music with Stephane Grappelli is awesome. Huge influence on Willie. Thanks, OP, for listing out specifics about what you liked in Django's style. Are there any more you care to point out? I know what you mean, i tend to have a similar reaction to music i am lesser familiar with.

I will try and name some of my favorietes and what i like about them. I guess i like the Clarinet on this one just as much as the solo maybe even more, it just sounds so warm. I like that he starts his solo on with a bend, something frowned upon in jazz.

And continues with fast paced melodies, but gives them time to work on you after he played them. He does little fills with his guitar when the violin solo begins after the introducing melodie.

The solo between - is probably my favorite part of the song, he first starts with some repeated notes that build op the tension that explodes in a sea of notes. Then around he does some very weird maniac stuff with some dissonant chords thats really exciting to me.

He later rephrases that part again something he also does quiet frequent,. I dont know if you ever saw the video where you actually see him play but its amazing, has a great atmosphere and to actually see him play is magical.

Bassist Tony Bevir is a spectacular time-keeper and also displays a sublime talent for melodic invention every time he is called upon to solo.

And, of course the magnificent guitarist, Dave Kelbie is a harmonic cannon, exploding with colour and the kind of density of texture that seems to be the glue that holds it all together. Kelbie is probably one of the greatest rhythm guitarist in all of music—especially in the Manouche style. He is unique in responding to the musical conversations with his lead players with forthright harmonies that glow and dapple in the sunlight, while imparting to the music, the rhythmic rumbling of a folksy freight train.

This is simply because he is made entirely of music: head to toe, body and soul. It was this remarkable record, Swing guitars that created this most enduring relationship with the Le Jazz quartet, a relationship that lasted a decade. Before that Fapy Lafertin played with the famed Waso, the Belgian band that contained that other musical genius, the great rhythm guitarist, Vivi Limberger.

However, it is here that Mr. Lafertin is heard in all his glory beginnings; in the magisterium of the Le Jazz Quartet. Just as spectacular is the fact that this recording has been made the old fashion way, using a ribbon microphone made for the BBC in about , recorded by a master and mastered by a musician who also happens to have one of the best pairs of ears in music.

This powerful combination of music and engineering makes 94 — 96 the recordings one of the most historic and memorable packages brought to a discerning public in Europe and hopefully to America as well.

Fapy est sans doute celui qui se rapproche le plus de Django sans jamais le copier. Two discs, remastered, re-edited in one case, with 8 bonus tracks, and a well-illustrated booklet of 20 pages, nice photos in black and white… Django is celebrated with excellent versions of Swing guitars, Diminishing, Anouman on CD1 made in Fapy proves to be holding back, of being very sensible melodically and of having a beautiful clear articulation which distinguishes him from most of the other players in the Manouche style, for example the intro of Time on my hands and the tempo change in Billets Doux.

Fapy is the one who gets closest to Django without ever copying him. Stylish phrases immediately recognisable, he marries nobility, swing and elegance in his improvisations of rare intelligence…always remarkably well constructed e. When he is not soloing Fapy pushes the rhythm with impressive drive, a combination of authority and suppleness.
